Here’s a recap of the best LBD creations dreamt by Karl Lagerfeld during his tenure at Chanel.
Karl Lagerfeld was one of the fashion industry’s most decorated designers, having helmed Chanel since 1983. On Feb. 19, he died at the age of 85, leaving behind a lasting fashion legacy thanks to his haute couture creations that graced the red carpet.
During his time at the luxury fashion Maison, he continued his predecessor’s legacy, creating knockout black dresses that ruled the red carpet and made for haute couture catnip to his muses for decades. He chose many celebrities to wear his timeless and delicate creations, which were immediately recognizable thanks to their intricate beading, feathery embroidery, and bright, bold hues.
Over the years, there have been many celebrities, who have paid tribute to the late designer at ceremonies like the pre-Oscars dinner. Those stars in the list included Tessa Thompson, Kristen Stewart, Penelope Cruz, Lily-Rose Depp, Julianne More, Miley Cyrus, Michelle Yeoh, Lupita Nyong’o, Lucy Boynton, Margot Robbie, Liam Hemsworth, Careyb Milligan, Leslie Mann, Judd Apatow, Shailene Woodley and Robin Wright. For instance, Tessa Thompson, who was presenting best score at the Academy Awards, wore a black silk bustier dress from Chanel on the 2019 Oscars red carpet. “Honouring Karl… Last couture collection,” her stylists Waymann Bannerman and Micah McDonald wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for your legacy.” They added, “beauty inspired by Coco Chanel.”
