With so many pre-fall collections coming out, it became imminent for us to bring you a mix of top collections which will help you to keep an eye on these designers for their fall collection. Pre-Fall collections are a mere chance for designers to give a glimpse of a collection just before the fall fashion shows in February. Designers aim to produce more commercial pieces and reimagine its everyday utilitarian garments.

Two big themes are emerging for the (pre)season as collections are launched. One is practicality, as seen through the roomy cargo pockets, the abundance of trench coats and all the knitwear. The other is drama, such as bangs with more pronounced movements, high collars reminiscent of different prissy aesthetics and gothic black lace.

Some of the most recognized designer brands presented great proposals for their Pre-Fall 2023 collections, from No21, Carolina Herrera, Proenza Schouler and Ferragamo. Proenza Schouler, for its part, used the preseason as an opportunity to rethink its everyday, well-made and wearable garments. While at Carolina Herrera, with a lookbook starring models Aubrey Hill, Erin Treschel and Lulu Tenney, designer Wes Gordon was inspired by confident, bold and fabulous women. The collection explores the idea of the diva personality and celebrates the skills of the brand’s atelier.

GIVENCHY

Givenchy’s latest collection fuses the Parisian elegance of the legendary French Maison with the California roots of creative director Matthew Williams.

The key looks of the pre-summer collection take feminine tailoring and deconstruct it to infuse an element of casualness. This contrast continues with Williams’ colour play, in addition to the contrasting garments.

The collection included tuxedo jackets, cargo jeans, pencil skirts, cargo pockets and looks that fused an urban-chic energy.  For the men’s collection, he also mixed classic tailoring with utilitarian charm. Accessories took centre stage, showcasing Parisian hobo bags, Voyou tote bags, and more.

FERRAGAMO

Creative director Maximilian Davis unveiled his first and latest Ferragamo Pre-Fall 2023 collection, reflecting Salvatore Ferragamo’s influence in Los Angeles, where the founder opened a store in 1923 and built the foundation for his brand on a global scale. The brand aimed to mix hot and cold with American Western design codes inspired by Salvatore Ferragamo’s 1923 silent film, The Covered Wagon.

In this collection, you can find fine textiles, utilitarian pants, gold bustier dresses, denim coats, shirtdresses, and more. The colour palette and geometric motifs paid homage to Nancy Holt’s Sun Tunnels installations.

“There’s an image of LA and Hollywood where you kind of pan away from the city and you see the mountains, so you see the contrast of the mountains with the palm trees,” Davis said. “So there was this idea of mixing hot and cold.”

CAROLINA HERRERA

For this Carolina Herrera Pre-Fall 2023 collection, Wes Gordon was inspired by the concept of the Diva woman, that is, a singular personality who makes every moment her own. With a commanding presence, innate confidence and extraordinary style. Like the idea of our Diva, there is no room for shyness in the designs of this collection and that is reflected through incredible textures, rich prints and a striking colour palette.  “It’s the bold colours, the big trains and kind of a continued evolution of the silhouettes that I’ve been working on for the past few seasons.” He added. “Here’s to coming to terms with the things I really love – the beauty of classic silhouettes, explosive florals and bold colours – and embracing them unabashedly and unabashedly with enthusiasm.”

Nº21

Creative director Alessandro Dell’Acqua presented his latest Nº21 Pre-Fall 2023 collection, exploring and reimagining the brand’s archives. The designer presented a lookbook and played with lace, boudoir sensuality, duality between masculine and feminine, leopard spots, and the colour of fresh.

”I always like the same things: lace, boudoir sensuality, the play of masculine versus feminine, a dash of leopard spots, the colour of fresh, see-through,” Alessandro said. “I’ve been recovering many things from the past, from my former namesake label and personal archive… For years, I’ve been too angry to look back, but now I do,” he also stated.

DIOR

Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri unveiled her latest Dior Pre-Fall 2023 collection to explore the connection between Dior and India. She wants to explore the feelings and emotions that connect the brand. The collection fused different heritages and fashion cultures, while paying tribute to Marc Bohan who was the Maison’s creative director from 1960 to 1989.

“Maria Grazia Chiuri has chosen palettes of colours and materials that exalt influences shared with Karishma Swali. Working on timeless clothing shapes which have stayed intact through time allows Chiuri to (re)design her favourite models. A colour black sequence dedicated to silks – in shades of green, yellow, pink and purple -, in homage to Marc Bohan, comes in the form of sophisticated evening coats, sari-inspired straight skirts and traditional Indian cuts, as well as pants, little boleros, jackets and brassieres.” From Dior.
