Paris Fashion Week kicked off Fashion Month for the Fall-Winter 2023 season. Check the best collections here.
Menswear fashion month concluded with Paris Fashion Week Men’s Fall-Winter 2023, giving us glimpse of the menswear’s season ahead. Worldwide known fashion brands were part of a packed six-day schedule – among them Dior, Givenchy, Saint Laurent, just to name a few.
For the season, most brands took inspiration from many aspects. Some of them decided to pay homage to their heritage or playing with silhouettes, while others put more emphasize on creating pieces blending masculine and feminine with sophistication. Most designers used their menswear collections to explore the conversation between what garments are considered “traditionally” for men and “traditionally” for women.
Of course, tailoring, coats, suits, and more were key elements. Models wore monochromatic looks in different texture. There were also pieces in a range of colour palettes, such as black, white, nude, navy, silver, and more.
The men’s fashion week opened with the return of Saint Laurent with the label’s creative director, Anthony Vaccarello. Dolce & Gabbana also turned heads during the Paris Fashion Week Menswear. The luxury fashion brand presented its fall 2023 menswear collection, showing off the very best fashion for men with sartorial finest and elegant pieces for today’s men.
Here are some of the highlights from the menswear runways of the Paris Fashion Week Men’s Fall-Winter 2023.
Givenchy’s latest Fall-Winter Menswear 2023.24 collection re-evaluated and re-valued the “archetypes of menswear through the eyes of contemporary masculinities.” For the season, creative Director Matthew M. Williams wanted to present a classic but elegant, street collection. He stroke a balance between classic French fashion, and the sort of edginess and provocation that makes design aficionados – yound and old.
Formal business with casual was blended to provide with an incredible collection for elegant gentlemen. A monochromatic colour palette was emphasized throughout the collection, with splashes of vibrant pinks, greens, and purples. There were lashings of tailoring, cargo trousers transformed into skirts over sweatpants, and tartan kilts that collided with artfully distressed knits.
Housed at Paris’ Bourse de Commerce (Pinault Collection museum), Saint Laurent presented its latest Fall 2023-24 collection, exploring the thin line between fashion and art. A palette of black, white, nude, navy, and silver took centre stage throughout the collection. However, it focused on the boldness of shape and texture rather than colour.
The Fall-Winter 2023.24 collection also blended masculine and feminine motifs. Fluidity was a focal hallmark, and clean garments were the primary goal. There were floor-hugging overcoats, ultra-sharp shoulders hooded pieces, knitwear tunics with extended necks, and more.
Fendi’s latest Fall-Winter 2023.24 menswear collection took inspiration from the ‘70s, with looks that included fringe blanket coats, one-shoulder tops, and leather, oversized vests, cocooning outwear, and shearling jackets. The palette was quite neutral, mainly crafted of grays and browns, though a single hue was peppered throughout: lavender.
Classicism and traditional menswear silhouettes were also taken into account, as the label showcased asymmetrical sartorial classics and deconstructed shirting that revealed flashes of skin. Of course, the “it” iconic item, the “Baguette Bag” was also present.
DOLCE & GABBANA
Dolce & Gabbana’s latest Fall-Winter 2023/24 collection returned to the essence of who the label is as a brand. the essence of the brand. Held on January 14th during the Milano Fashion Week, designers Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana explained that the collection was not about minimalism, but about simplicity. “This has nothing to do with minimalism, but rather with simplicity,” they stated. Dark pieces were what this season’s collection was about. “These are our codes – which span from black to black, to eighty per cent black,” they joked.
They wanted to create a collection that explore the purity of the volumes, the innovative proportions, the tailored cut, the Italian fabrics and silks, and the handmade craftsmanship. The brand also revived elements of the FW 1999/00 collection, showing off micro-shirts, double-waist trousers, and superstructures of girdles, corsets and bands.
Created by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simmons, Prada presented its latest Fall-Winter 2023.24 collection, exploring the principles of fashion and evaluating its importance and impact in the modern world. It was held at the Deposito of the Fondazione Prada. The Prada FW 2023.24 showcased a collection where simplicity, minimization, comfort, and amplification took centre stage.
The collection showcased assertive, and extreme silhouettes to create a unique and fresh finish. There was a range of military-inspired outwear – slim officer’s coats, peacoats, parkas flight jackets and voluminous bombers. The oversized collars and cardigans were also featured throughout the collection.
